Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MTV Video Remixer?

Powered by Adobe® Premiere® Express, the MTV Video Remixer is a fun tool that lets you easily combine video clips, still images and effects into a unique video creation based on a popular music video.

How do I get started?

Drag video clips and images from the media bins on the right side of the application and drop them into the edit window on the left, or into the scene tiles below the edit window.

After you've added media to your remix, you can spice up your creation with titles, borders, transitions and more. Just drag them into the video clip or image in the edit window. It's quick and easy to produce your creative video remix!

How long can I make my remix?

Each remix lasts the duration of the song.

How do I add video clips to my remix?

To add a video clip to your remix, select and drag it from "Videos" bin on the right side of the application into the edit window, or drop it into the sceneline.

Can I use a part of a video clip instead of the entire video clip in my remix?

Yes, there is more than one way to include only a portion of a video clip in your remix. One way is to use the "split clip" feature (scissors icon) and delete the unwanted portion of the video. To split the clip, move the triangular playhead to the point at which you want to split the clip. Click the scissors icon, then delete the unwanted portion of your video clip.

Another way you can include only part of a video clip is to use the sliders at the beginning and end of the duration bar to trim the clip. You can combine the split clip and trimming features for even more control over the portion of a clip you wish to include.

Can I change the order of my scenes?

Yes. Drag clips into the desired locations in the sceneline.

How can I delete a scene or an effect from my remix?

There a few easy ways to delete a scene or effect from your remix. You can click on the scene you want to delete and drag it back to the media bins on the right side of the application. You can also click on the scene or effect and use the "Delete" key on your keyboard to remove it from your remix.

How can I make my text or effects larger (or smaller)?

You can resize your titling text, captions text and effects after you have dragged them to your video clip or photo. Hover your cursor over the corner of the text or effects box until an arrow appears. Use your mouse to grab the arrow and scale the text box to the desired size.

How can I reposition my text or effects on a video clip or photo?

You can move text or effects to any position in the window by grabbing the item's outline box and dragging it to the desired location.

How can I add titling, text captions or an effect to my remix?

To add text or effects to your remix, drag the desired text caption or effect from the "Graphics and Captions" bin on the right side of the application and drag it to the clip on which you want the caption or effect to appear. You can only include one effect or caption per each video clip or photo. If you drag multiple effects to a single video clip or photo, only the last effect will appear.

How can I change how long my photos play in my remix?

Photo duration is automatically set to three seconds when you add a photo to your remix. You can change this by dragging the slider to the desired time duration.

Can I add a border to a single scene only?

No. Borders are a "global effect," which means if you chose to add a border, it will appear for the entire duration of the remix.

Can I add my own graphics and borders?

No. You cannot upload your own graphics or borders at this time.

What are transitions?

Transitions are short visual effects between two clips that serve as a way to visually link scenes together.

I did not finish creating my remix, can I save it?

You cannot save partial mixes at this time, though this functionality may change in the future.

I did not like my final remix, how can I edit it?

Once your remix is submitted, it can no longer be edited. But feel free to try your now experienced hand at a new one!

Can I save my remix to my desktop or burn it to DVD?

No. Currently, you are only able to save and view your remix through this MTV site. You cannot save remixes to your desktop or local drive or burn it to DVD.
